Privacy policy
Ghana Global ("Ghana Global", "we", "us") is an invite-only community for Ghanaians worldwide. This policy explains what we collect and what we do with it. By creating an account you agree to this policy and to our terms and conditions.
What we collect
- Account details: name, email address, password (stored hashed) and the phone number you provide at signup or onboarding.
- Onboarding answers: your heritage background (born and/or raised in Ghana or abroad), industry, city, country and what you want to get out of the platform.
- Profile content: headline, skills, bio, availability for collaboration and anything else you add.
- Community activity: posts, comments, likes, collaboration listings, communities and associations you join, direct and group messages, and reports you file or receive.
- Referral data: the invite link you used, who referred you, and everyone who joins through your link.
- Technical data: device, browser, approximate location from IP, timestamps and usage events.
How we use your data
- To run the platform: accounts, feed, communities, chat, safety and moderation.
- To curate your experience — we tag and segment members by heritage, industry, location, goals and activity so we can surface the right people, communities and opportunities to you.
- To communicate with you by in-app notification, email, SMS or WhatsApp about your account, your communities, moderation outcomes, invitations, events, features, research, partner opportunities and promotions. You can adjust in-app and email notification categories in notification settings.
- To analyse, benchmark and report on community trends, including aggregated and de-identified statistics we may publish or share.
- To detect abuse, enforce our rules and comply with the law.
Ownership of data and content
The Ghana Global platform, its databases, and all records, analytics, aggregations, derived insights and de-identified datasets generated from platform activity are owned by Ghana Global.
You keep ownership of the content you create. By posting or sending content on Ghana Global you grant Ghana Global a worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive, royalty-free, fully paid, transferable and sublicensable licence to host, store, copy, adapt, translate, analyse, display, publish, distribute and otherwise use that content and your profile and onboarding information for any purpose connected with operating, promoting, researching, monetising or improving Ghana Global and its partnerships, across any media now known or later developed, without further notice, credit or payment to you. This licence survives deletion of your account to the extent copies, backups, analytics and content shared with others remain.
Depending on where you live, local privacy laws (for example Ghana's Data Protection Act, the UK/EU GDPR or US state privacy laws) may give you rights that this policy cannot override, such as rights of access, correction, objection and deletion. We honour those rights where they apply. This page is a plain-language policy, not legal advice — have a qualified lawyer review it before you rely on it commercially.
Who can see what
- Your name, headline, industry, skills, heritage tag and location are visible to other signed-in members.
- Your phone number, email address and private bio are not shown in the member directory. They are accessible to you and to the platform owner.
- Private communities and associations are visible to their members, their creator and the platform owner.
- Direct and group messages are visible to their participants, and to the platform owner and moderators when investigating a report or abuse.
Sharing
We share data with service providers who host and operate the platform (hosting, database, email, analytics), with partners and affiliates where useful to the community or the business, in aggregated or de-identified form publicly, and with authorities when required by law. We may transfer your data as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.
Retention and deletion
We keep account data for as long as your account exists and afterwards where we need it for safety, legal, backup, analytics or record-keeping purposes. To delete your account, email ghanaglobalapp@gmail.com. Content you shared with others, moderation records and de-identified analytics may remain.
Security and children
We use row-level database security, encrypted transport and role-based access to protect your data, but no platform is perfectly secure. Ghana Global is for adults aged 18 and over.
